Ted Cruz Your Apology Might Have Come To Late For Joe Biden

Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz is probably somewhere eating crow right about now and doing some damage control after critics came down on him for his insensitive comments. Sen. Ted Cruz has since gone on Facebook and Twitter to apologize for the ill-timed comments he made about Vice President Joe Biden while speaking at a GOP dinner in Michigan earlier this evening.  While delivering one of his stump speeches he thought it would be a good idea to poke fun at Biden saying, “You know the nice thing about the mention of Biden’s name? You don’t need a punch line. ” according to the Detroit News. He didn’t stop there, he went on to say, according to the news report. “Honestly, it works, the next party you’re at, just walk up to someone and say, Vice President Joe Biden and just close your mouth. They will crack up laughing.”

Well Mr. Cruz, I am not laughing and I have been saying Biden’s name almost daily since his son died. Every time I have said his name, it was followed by: “I am so terribly sorry for this man. I cannot imagine the pain he is feeling right now. I am praying for him, his family, and the two children and wife his son left behind!” Not once have I laughed or “cracked up laughing” as Cruz suggested. Yes Biden is a character and he is known to make some pretty off the cuff comments that are quite frankly hilarious, but this was not the time for jokes. Where is your class Mr. Cruz? Where is your empathy?
Biden’s oldest son, Beau Biden lost his battle with brain cancer on Saturday and understandably so, the entire Biden family are grieving. It has been reported that Elder Biden, who is a devout Catholic, is leaning on his rosary amidst the preparations for his sons burial. A burial that no parent should ever have to experience.  And for Biden this kind of grief is not a new experience for him.  He’s experienced the pain of burying a child once before. In 1972, his wife, daughter, and two sons were in a horrific car accident on their way to get Christmas decorations. His wife and baby daughter were killed and his two boys, just two and three years old at the time were hospitalized for many months. As a matter of fact Biden was sworn into office in 1973 in the hospital at Beau’s bedside because he would not leave his son’s side.

Services for Beau Biden are as follows: Thursday he will lay in honor in Delaware’s Legislative Hall, followed by a Friday viewing and Saturday Mass. Biden asked President Obama to eulogize Beau and offer some public words of comfort to his wife, Hallie, and children Natalie, 11, and Hunter, 9.
Do you think Sen. Cruz was insensitive even though it is a punch line he uses often on his campaign trail? What does his comment mean to you?
